I apologize profusely for last night last few attempts. I left my Unholy Presence from running back on tis why I died last attempt. I have been running on empty last few days getting ready for the Baseball season for my daughter (Doing the schedules, working the Diamonds, getting practice equipment going, Uniforms arranged, etc.) that I have been honestly wiped out by the end of the day. That should be done now as we are actually starting practice on Wed. this week so should be way better from here on out! We will get him this week!!
Hey no worries Auto. We all pull brain farts from time to time. Pretty sure I did a boss pull in my dps gear a few weeks back. You just admitted your mistake and we had a little fun with it. You've been doing an awesome job tanking and should be proud of it.
Yep, don't worry about it! I screwed up on Durumu last night too! As Aanvil pointed out last night, I failed at the maze even though others at the same spot lived. It happens to everyone at some point, what really matters is recognizing the problem and fixing it. You've already done that so you're good! :)
Speaking of problems, I figured out why we wiped to the enrage last night! I was really surprised at that last night. By all accounts, Primordius is a very easy boss, so it was strange that we could kill Durumu, but not him. Looking at the logs, I figured it out! Turns out that one of our DPS, Bluepea, did not get the Fully Mutated buff at all! In fact, he only got 3 of the stat buffs during the "enrage wipe" pull. That lead to extremely low DPS on the boss. In fact, even my pet did more damage on Primordius than Bluepea! (I can't say that very often, so I'll enjoy it while I can!)
I don't know if he just had trouble finding the pools or wasn't standing in them, but it's a gigantic DPS difference. The Fully Mutated gives 75% extra damage on the boss plus whatever other buffs you get. He did do a lot of AoE damage, so focusing too much on the adds and not enough on the boss. The adds are really not important aside from getting the mutated buffs from them. They do make the boss a little bit stronger, but there are so many of them, it's not worth worrying about trying to kill them all. The non-current-tank gets a damage buff on them so can keep their numbers down, but DPS needs to be on the boss.
(I'm amused that I have to post more for Primordius than for Durumu!)
I came up with a simple way to streamline the buff gaining, at least for the start of the fight. There are a lot of slimes that come out, each from their own grate. So simple enough, each DPS picks one grate to focus on and kills any slime that comes out of there. Kill 5 slimes, get 5 buffs, then focus on the boss and ignore slimes. When the Mutated buff wears off, kill 5 more slimes, attack the boss and repeat. Should be easy. Healers can pick up buffs if they'd like from the slimes that the tanks kill.
It's really a very simplistic fight. There's less to worry about than on Jin'rokh! We should have no trouble taking him down in just a pull or two next time.
I talked with Bluepea and we sorted it out. He was trying out a strategy he'd seen for Destro warlocks that uses a talent to do ridiculous amounts of AoE damage to the adds. The basic idea behind that is fine, there just needed to be buff gaining and boss DPS to go with it! :) It's a great way for Bluepea to kill adds when he's not mutated.
Step 1: Do ridiculous AoE
Step 2: Grab 5 buffs
Step 3: Kill boss
Repeat!
As a general note, unusual strategies are fine by me. Sometimes they can work out far better than the "usual" strategy. Just let me know beforehand, please. :)
