Deathsong - Warlock

Application Form

Tell us tell us a little about yourself.
Hi. This is Deathsong (Serkan in real). I am a data scientist from Turkey. I came to US for PhD. education in 2009 and currently living and working in San Diego. Outside WoW, I go regularly hiking with my wife around San Diego. I also have a motorcycle which I ride a few hundred miles every weekend. I am a big basketball fan. I enjoy both playing and watching every kind of basketball game. I used to play the drums for a metal band but had to quit due to my move to the states but I still play some here and there. That's about it I guess.

Tell us about your WoW experience.

I raided on and off since classic era. Started in EU servers back in 2006. Raided hardcore (5 nights a week) until end of Cataclysm. Have achieved a lot of realm firsts including Illidan and the Lich King. Left the glorious raiding days behind with the release of MoP due to the tough PhD. days. Mostly done with PhD. with the release of Siege of Orgrimmar then I decided to give it a try in US servers so I started leveling a retribution paladin. I never planned to go back to hardcore raiding so I hang up with some beginner to intermediate level guilds and raided mostly normal and some heroic with them. I am a competitive guy in nature so I kept on tracking my personal rankings from wow log and realized that I was doing pretty good besides my mediocre gear. So I decided to give it a try with an end game guild. Joined a trial run of the Eternal Kingdom. Although they already had 3 retribution paladins, they liked me and decided to give a spot in their raids so I ended up raiding 4 nights (yet again) with them and was able to kill Mythic Garrosh. I was a member of the so called champions team of the Eternal Kingdom. Due to the increased population of melee roles, I made a sacrifice and decided to switch to a range role. Mage was in great need at that time so although I have never played mage, I wanted to give it a go (which was a bug mistake). I couldn't get used to the play style of the mage and as soon as I reach level 100, I gave up raiding as a mage. It was too late to switch back to retribution so I quit raiding completely. Recently, I watched the highlights of the BlizzCon and I think I like the plans for the next expansion (Legion). It kind of reminds me The Burning Crusade which was by far my favorite expansion so far. So here I am trying to catch up with raiding. Looking for a 2 night, 6-7 hours raiding team that I can fit in and planning to stay mediocre-to-semi hardcore and sounds like Game Theory is a good fit. I had a brief conversation with Aanwar this morning and he asked me a why I want to join as a range dps since that was the reason I quit raiding. I think this is something that you all be wondering who read my application. I feel like with the addition of two new melee roles (Demon Hunter's and Survival Hunter's), it will be a total overkill finding a spot outside guild events as a melee dps. Besides that, I have past end game raiding experience back in EU as a Warlock so I am little bit used to it (although the warlock mechanics were different during WotLK and Cataclysm). So here I am as a dedicated warlock trying to find a home to see the end of the current content and looking forward to the new expansion.

What class and spec(s) are you applying with? What other classes have you played?
Currently playing Deathsong - Affliction/Destruction Warlock.
Past classes/roles (significant ones only) in chronological order:
Efsane - Retribution Paladin (http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/proudmoore/Efsane/simple)
In EU:
Deathsong - Affliction/Destruction Warlock (http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/auchindoun/Deathsong/simple)
Zaldabor - Enhancement/Restoration Shaman (http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/stormscale/Zaldabor/simple)

When did you start playing? What guilds were you in? How much raiding have you done?
In EU, from 2006 through 2013, I raided with a guild called The Tempted. I was the co-gm/main officer of the guild during that time where we have achieved a lot of server firsts including Illidan and the Lich King. I have cleared all of the released contents up to the MoP before significant nerfs with The Tempted. In US, only significant guild that I raided was the Eternal Kingdom. I have been with them for more than a year before I quit raiding.

PVP much?
I don't enjoy PvP too much so almost never join PvP related events.

What is your Weakness?
I think my biggest weakness will be the lack of time during weekdays besides raiding that I can spare for WoW due to the working hours (I work 10+ hours pretty much every weekday). So this could decrease my raid preparedness. However, I will do my best to compensate this over the weekends.

What do you struggle with? What are you working on improving?
I struggle with the range role mechanics after switching back from melee. The switches were way easier when I was a student and had lots of spare time. It takes more time to get used to it nowadays but I am planning to have a lot of practice in LFR to be a master warlock :)
What was your favorite gaming moment?
The deafening roar after we got Illidan down for the first time (after numerous wipes, dramas, guild-quits), so was an awesome moment. I would also add the moment that I got the famous staff "Dragonwrath". It was the first for the server, and was a great personal in-game accomplishment I must say :) Stood there on top of Stormwind AH for hours to show-off my dragon-form! :)

Extra Credit

Can you link a Warcraft Logs raid parse? How about a screenshot of your interface? These aren't essential but would be nice to confirm that you aren't this guy, with more addons than boss showing.
Unfortunately I don't have any recent logs with my warlock (although I certainly could log one of my LFR runs, I haven't yet). All of the logs with my retribution paladin must have expired since I couldn't find them. I am at work right now but I can certainly post a screenshot as soon as I am at home.

Well, thanks for reading first of all. Hope it is relevant and answers your questions/concerns. I am not currently mythic ready and barely heroic ready so I won't immediately be helping you towards progression but I will do my best to catch up given the chance. If not, good luck and maybe we will raid together in Legion!

Cheers!

Hi there Deathsong, it was a

Hi there Deathsong, it was a pleasure talking to you this morning. I will let Skarn know that you posted an app and hopefully we can find a good opportunity for you to get in a raid soon. As we discussed, we are pretty close to an Archimonde kill right now and will most likely ask you to come along for a non-progress night.

Deathsong
Likewise! Good luck tomorrow

Not sure what we will do

Not sure what we will do tomorrow but if we will go our usual way - think we may grub you for few bosses

Like Dikka said, we might

Like Dikka said, we might choose to clear again before going after Archie, we'll wait and see what Skarn says.

Hi!

Hello, Deathsong! Nice to see your app with us. We'd be happy to get you into our raids, but I do have a couple concerns.

First, you did address it, but I want to be sure you are happy as a warlock. Your logic is sound that melee could be very full in Legion, but you also need to have fun playing the game. It's not worth playing a class or role that you don't enjoy. If you are going to be happy as a warlock, then I encourage it!

Second, as mentioned, we are very close to Heroic Archimonde and since you are missing the Legendary ring and a little behind on ilevel, you might not be ready for him. I'm happy to have you come along for our farm bosses, but we'll likely ask you to sit out when we move on to Archimonde. So long as you are good with that, you are welcome to join our raid this Thursday night. I assume you saw, but we start at 8:30 Pacific time. We use Mumble for voice comms. It's not always necessary to talk, but listening is needed!

Look forward to meeting you. :)

Hi Skarn. Thanks for the

Hi Skarn. Thanks for the reply.

The answer for your first question is so far so good. I didn't like playing mage but I enjoy playing warlock especially affliction a lot. Don't want to offend any mages here but the class seemed too monotone to me. Maybe I couldn't figure it out properly and that's the reason but I find playing a warlock much more challenging than any other range dps roles I have tried besides Moonkin (I think there is a rocket science going on there with the moonkins). So I do enjoy playing warlock as I said and I will probably continue playing with it in Legion too.

For your second question, absolutely. As I mentioned, I am barely heroic ready both gear and experience wise so there is no way I can help you within the next couple of weeks. I don't mind sitting behind at all. My time will come for sure considering the current state of the warlocks. I feel confident on that :)

Raid times are perfect and I do have mumble installed. I don't talk a lot during raids but I certainly am a good listener so won't miss any commands on mumble.

Thanks again!

Peace
DS

Hey Deathsong, great to see

Hey Deathsong, great to see your app. We can get you caught up fairly quickly, I've been the only cloth wearer in the raid for some time so we can get your ilvl up to useful levels fast.

Deathsong
Thanks buddy! I must say I am

Thanks buddy! I must say I am extremely unlucky with the bonus tokens since its introduction so getting loot from boss in the beginning is something that I don't mind at all :) And I will probably have my ring at the time I join for progression!

Deathsong
Thank You!

Hi all,

I would like to thank you again for inviting and boosting me through the heroic bosses. I also appreciate the gear that I got, and especially thank Mutagen for passing a gear despite being an upgrade for him too. This was my first organized raid group above normal difficulty since Siege of Orgrimmar and I felt like I have more rust than I originally anticipated so didn't go well as much as I wanted to but the bright side is I learned a lot so next one should go better.

I really enjoyed raiding with you guys last night. When I played a dps role, I used to be in top 2-3 all the time (although it doesn't mean I am a good player I must say) but I feel like it will be more challenging here :) Looking forward to it!

Anyways, I will be traveling to New York next week so I will be out entire week. Just FYI so that you don't think I grabbed a few pieces and vanished :)

I will be available again for the raid on 3rd of December in case you want to give me another chance :)

Have a nice Thanksgiving break and holiday and good luck on Archimonde.

Peace,
DS
