HoF - Wind Lord Mel'jarak

We're likely to kill Garalon and be facing this guy tonight or Monday. Skarn has some good ideas on CC that might be different from this, I forgot what he was talking about doing. Mass Dispell is going to be nice for this. This one shouldn't take us too many pulls.

Fatboss guide

Tankspot guide

Lots and lots of adds. Whenever a group of adds dies, Mel'jarak's damage done increases by 50% and his damage taken increases by 33%.

Mel'jarak himself:
--Whirling Blade: Targets a random player, deals damage to all players between that player and the boss. Can hit you twice (once when heading to its target, once heading back). Spread out in a circle to mitigate this.
--Rain of Blades: 240k damage to all raid members over 6 seconds.
--Wind Bomb: Starts throwing these out when he hits 75% health; if you go near one of them you'll deal 300k damage to the entire raid.
--Also, if 5+ adds are being CCed simultaneously, he'll break all CC on the adds. Drops to 3+ after one group of adds dies, and after a second group of adds dies you won't be able to use CC at all.

Now, the adds. Mel'jarak starts the fight with three each of these (more will spawn on heroic), and each type of add has a shared health pool-- kill one add and the other two of its type die.

Amber-Trappers: Will put people in iceblocks (you break them out just by clicking on it, but you can only break out one person every 2 minutes; these blocks are breakable by anything that provides stun immunity) and give people a thing like Blazing Heat from Ragnaros where you poop out amber puddles for a while (run that out of the raid).
Battle-Menders: Heals their group and also stacks an attack speed/damage done buff. The heal is interruptable; the buff is purgeable/stealable. Kill these things first. You can have two out and one CCed just fine (the heal cooldown is shared between all three of them).
Blademasters: Will periodically fixate on one raid member and hit him for 150k each in unison. This will probably outright kill any non-plate DPS unless one of the blademasters is CCed.

There's four weapon racks around the room; interacting with a rack removes it and gives you an extra action button that you can use to CC one of the adds for 50 seconds. If you do this and then die, that extra CC will be gone for the remainder of the fight.

Start by CCing two Amber-Trappers, one Blademaster, and one Mender; pull the rest of the adds and the boss into one big pile and AOE everything, making sure the Menders die first. When the Menders die, all the CCed adds will break out; re-CC one Trapper and one Blademaster, then go back to AOEing.

Once all the adds are dead, slowly kite the boss around the edge of the room and away from Wind Bombs starting at 75%. Keep the middle somewhat clear for ranged to group up during Rain of Blades; otherwise, just try to avoid getting gibbed by Whirling Blade and blow raid cooldowns during Rain of Blades.

After-kill Reminders

This guy did turn out pretty easy. Least pulls to kill of any boss in Heart of Fear, I think! Here are a few notes from the kill.

I prefer to CC two of the Amber-Shapers and one of the other two types. We have enough interrupts that the Menders are pretty easy to control. This method keeps the number of Amber Prisons low, which is better in my opinion! It does make the first part of the fight dispel heavy, so if we are lacking Mass Dispel, it may be better to trap two Menders instead and single-target burn the other one down to get rid of the Quickening buff fast. Otherwise it's pretty easy.

A few other things to remember:

Don't stun anything! Stuns will break the CC and send all the adds running like crazy.

The Amber Prison hits anyone within a few yards of you. Don't stand near anyone when it is cast on you, especially the tank!

During phase 2, boss in the middle of the room with ranged/healers moving around the outer circle to place Wind Bombs worked really well.

Don't blow up the Wind Bombs! They are raid wipers.
