HoF - Amber-Shaper Un'sok

Teron Gorefiend 2.0: Everyone Is Rhyolith.

Two tanks required. It's 2-healable on 10-man, provided you're good at not standing in puddles.

Phase 1:
Regularly casts Amber Scalpel (eye beam thing) which drops puddles which congeal into Living Amber adds. These adds will explode on everyone within 8 yards-- and heal all other Living Ambers for a lot-- when they die; they also leave behind a void zone. Basically, let them aggro onto healers and then kill them.

He'll also do Reshape Life, which turns one player into a Mutated Construct. When you're transformed, you're hostile to both the raid and Un'sok (and to anyone else that gets transformed). You start with 100 Willpower and lose it at 2 per second; if you run out of willpower, you die and your construct will continue to run around wack-a-fuck. You can also free yourself when reduced to below 20% health. While transformed, you have the following abilities:
--Amber Strike: deals damage to your current target and applies a stacking-damage-taken debuff. Also interrupts Amber Explosion on the Amber Monstrosity in Phase 2.
--Struggle for Control; spend 8 willpower to interrupt Amber Explosion and increase your damage taken by 100% for 5 seconds.
--Eat an amber puddle to restore 20 willpower but also heal yourself for a bunch.
--Break Free at 20% health.

In Phase 1, Reshape Life will be cast only on one of the tanks; starting in Phase 2, he will cast it on anyone.

Phase 2: Un'sok summons the Amber Monstrosity when he hits 70% health. While the Amber Monstrosity is active, Un'sok will still continue to use his abilities from P1, but he can't be damaged. Phase ends when the Monstrosity dies.

Things the Amber Monstrosity does:
--Amber Explosion. The only way to interrupt this is with Amber Strike. Explosion has a very long cooldown (basically, once per Reshape Life cast), so feel free to spam Amber Strike until it has like 10 seconds left.
--Stomp. AOE knockback.
--Grabs his current tank and throws him at a random ranged, dealing damage and stunning players around the point of impact. This is a threat wipe.

If you push Un'sok below 70% while he's channeling Amber Scalpel, he'll finish that, recast Reshape Life on a tank, and phase; this isn't really a problem.

Phase 3: Un'sok stops casting Amber Scalpel, so no more small oozes (and no more additional puddles). Instead, he starts casting Reshape Life a lot more often, and will summon projectiles that will heal transformed players if they hit them (so no point in DPSing Constructs anymore). Oh, and he hits twice as hard. This is basically your soft enrage: kill Un'sok before everyone is mutated. If you get low on Willpower, go eat a puddle; otherwise just spam Amber Strike and watch him melt.

7%!

Really good night on Un'sok! He's not dead, but we made excellent progress. We barely got into phase 2 the other night we were here and now we've jumped to almost beating him. Great job! Now to finish him off. :)

The biggest part of this fight is driving the Constructs during phase 2. Anyone can get reshaped and so everyone needs to know what to do. The biggest thing to know is that the Monstrosity in this phase casts an explosion. This hurts a LOT. It needs to be interrupted every time. One going off is usually ok if we know it is going to happen, but better if none go off! The only way to interrupt it is for someone in a Construct to use their (1) key, called Amber Strike. (AMBER)

Amber Strike has a six second cooldown, so if you just spam it and ignore everything else you are likely to miss the interrupt. You do want to hit it regularly because it does a lot of damage and stacks a debuff on the Big Guy. Yet you need to keep an eye on your boss mod so that you know when the Explosion is coming. When it's near, make sure to slow down your Strike usage and make sure you have it available for the Explosion. If you do a Strike about 8 seconds before the Explosion comes, you'll have Strike available and the debuff will have enough time that it won't fall off. That's a good balance between DPS and interrupting.

When driving a Construct you also need to interrupt your own Explosion. It doesn't hit for as much, but it's still something that's easily avoidable. You do need to make sure not to mix the two up. You can set DBM to do a vocal countdown for your own Explosion, but show a bar timer for the Big one. That should help. Remember that interrupting your own Explosion costs 8 Willpower. So if you are low on Willpower, you should just exit the Construct instead of killing yourself with the interrupt button.

Last Construct note: TURN ON AUTO ATTACK. It's a HUGE damage boost. Check the log of our 7% attempt here and look at my damage done. Notice the Smash and Amber Strike damage and how HUGE those numbers are? "Smash" is the auto-attack of the construct. I did 10 Million damage with Amber Strike and another 10 million with Smash.

If your Smash auto-attack as a Construct is OFF, then you are literally doing HALF as much damage! That will easily be the difference between a wipe and a kill. Doubling your damage is HUGE. The point is obvious: Turn on your auto attack! It's a simple right click on the thing you are attacking. I think everyone was doing pretty good at this, but it can be hard to tell from the logs.

Other than Constructs, most of the fight is pretty simple. Make sure you switch DPS to Constructs early in phases 1 and 2 so their health can get under 20% soon enough that they don't run out of Willpower and die.

In phase 3, the exploding pool damage thing is a LoS attack. It won't hit you if a Construct is between you and the pool. (Supposedly.) So if you can sort of "hide" in or next to a Construct, it should help healers a lot in phase 3.

For next time, we should try two healers. The extra DPS player should smooth out most of the rough patches. That will kill adds faster and bring Construct health down faster, giving us more wiggle room. It'll also make the final phase faster. It does worry me a little for when a healer gets Construct'd, but it sounds worth a shot.

Let's kill this guy!

One thing that made a big

One thing that made a big difference for me was going in and turning off all the DBM warnings that don't matter to me. The tank throw thing doesn't matter, I'll see the Parasite debuff on Grid so I don't need that counting down, if the Scalpel comes out I'll dodge it, I don't need a timer. So that leaves just the bars for my explosion and the Monstrosity explosion.

The fight seems to go better if we avoid going to P2 during a Scalpel cast. We are able to get a nice chunk of DPS on him during the transition, but the timing of casts afterwards tends to be...bad. The Explosion from the Big Guy and the Reshape casts come very close to each other if the boss goes to P2 during a Scalpel cast. It is doable, but it's rough and has caused us problems.

On our recent kill, we pushed him over (unintentionally) in between Scalpel casts. This made for less DPS on the boss, but it put the Explosion and Reshape casts at much better intervals. No Explosions went off from the Monstrosity! They all got interrupted. Craziness. None of the self-explosions went off either, which is really great! It's interesting that only three people got Reshaped during phase 2. That's probably fairly normal, but I just didn't realize it before.

The other thing that seemed to work well is that we went into the final phase with no Constructs up. It might actually work better that way, it gives us more time in the final phase before everyone is a Construct. Makes the pools last longer too. Not 100% sure this is a good plan, but it seemed to work really well!

So in future kills I suggest we shoot for pushing phase 2 between Scalpel casts, not during. Probably something like kill 2-3 Slimes, push boss over, break Construct, kill other Slimes. Also try to start phase 3 with no one in Constructs. So long as the Big Guy is low and no Explosions are coming up, we can bust the Construct early.

But before that....let's kill the Empress!
