Heat Sinks

So it seems that laptops have something called a heat sink. When they are working I can play wow at 90 fps on ultra mode. Went they don't work I play wow at 6 fps. Alienware says my comp is under warranty so they are sending someone over next week with a bag of heat sinks. I should be back to raiding..hopefully in about a week or so.

I would have suggested this

I would have suggested this if I knew you were gaming from a laptop. Years ago, about the time WoW launched I got a midrange Dell laptop. It ran WoW great at first but about 6 months in it would start to get slow when I joined a 5man. I did some troubleshooting and didn't find anything. This progressively got worse and worse until WoW became unplayable. Unfortunately by now it was out of warranty. I finally tracked down the problem, it was overheating because the heat spreader assembly had slightly separated from the CPU and wasn't effectively cooling it. Eventually even YouTube would send it into thermal protection mode. Then the screen failed and I quit using it.
